Personal Information Protection Commission Japan (PPC)

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) was established on January 1, 2016 based on the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, (https://www.ppc.go.jp/files/pdf/Act_on_the_Protection_of_Personal_Information.pdf ), as one of the administrative agencies in Japan in order to protect the rights and interests of individuals while taking into consideration proper and effective use of personal information.

According to the PPC’s website, PPC’s main duties are as follows.
i. Formulation/Promotion of Basic Policy
ii. Supervision
iii. Mediation of Complaints
iv. Specific Personal Information Protection Assessment
v. Public Relations
vi. International Cooperation
vii. Accredited Personal Information Protection Organizations
viii. Report to the Diet
